Solid Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring - is made from kiln-dried shredded bamboo fibres and resin as a binder, compressed into solid planks using heat and enormous pressure which makes it denser and harder than other types of bamboo flooring.
Engineered Bamboo Flooring - is made by gluing a thin top layer of bamboo veneer to a wooden substrate. The top surface may be oriented either vertically or horizontally like solid bamboo. We do not recommend the use of engineered bamboo flooring in New Zealand.
Carbonization is a process of pressure heating the fibre. This process turns the natural colour into beautiful coffee colour. The longer it is heated, the darker the sugar compounds in the fibre become. The colours in Strand Woven Bamboo are darker than Solid Bamboo flooring.
Strand Woven Bamboo (Janka rating 2820 psi) is as hard as Jatoba our hardest wood flooring. Vertical Solid Bamboo (Janka rating 1380 psi) is the same hardness as Oak.
Bamboo flooring can be sanded and refinished like any other solid or engineered wood flooring. When it becomes necessary, we recommend that you use a professional floor sander.
WoodWorks bamboo flooring is a 'click-together' profile, so it can only be installed as a floating system.
For best results we recommend that you use a professional wood flooring contractor with previous bamboo flooring experience. A moisture barrier like Sika Primer MB is highly recommended when fixing to new concrete floors.
Bamboo is one of nature’s wonders, credited with being the fastest growing plant in the world and having the same tensile strength as steel. Bamboo is the ultimate in sustainability; it grows 10-20 times faster than hardwood trees and has a self-regenerating root system.
Bamboo is an environmentally friendly alternative to wood but not all bamboo flooring is manufactured in a responsible manner. WoodWorks Bamboo flooring is manufactured:
-From responsibly harvested mature Moso bamboo
-Using low formaldehyde resins which meet the E1 standard
-Using acrylic lacquers which are free of any VOC’s and solvents
-In a factory certified to ISO:9001 Quality and ISO:14001 Environmental standards
Beware of cheap bamboo flooring. It is probably poor quality as the result of harvesting the bamboo too early (impacting its hardness), the use of cheaper (toxic) glues, resins and lacquers or manufactured in factories without any proper quality control.
Like other WoodWorks products, our bamboo flooring carries a 10 year warranty and is supported by a nationwide network of experienced retailers.
